Obituary

A memorial service for Paul Bertram Kissinger will be held at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church in Greencastle on Thursday, May 23rd at 3 p.m.

Kissinger died on May 15th in England en route to the US after a vacation in France.   Born in Staten Island, New York on March 30, 1930, he grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania.  He was the only son of Paul Townsley Kissinger and Elsie Bertram Kissinger.  He was graduated from Albright College in 1952, received his Master’s degree from Northwestern University in 1954, and his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 1961.  He taught Physics and Astronomy at DePauw University from 1960 until his retirement in 2000.

Kissinger was not only a teacher, however.  He was also an accomplished oboist and barbershop quartet singer, a private pilot, an eclipse chaser, a world traveler, and a photographer.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne VerBryck Kissinger; son Scott V. Kissinger and his wife Kathleen; daughter Lisa Kissinger Kaplan and her husband David; and four grandchildren, Eric Paul and Laura Kissinger and Alexander and Matthew Kaplan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Operation Classroom, c/o Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, Spring Street, Greencastle, IN  46135.  Kissinger was planning to travel to Liberia, Africa in August as part of the United Methodist Association of Science Teachers’ Operation Classroom project to help meet the educational challenges in that redeveloping nation.
